We’ve all heard the saying: “When you love your job, you don’t work a day in your life.” Well, I not only love my job—I’m called to it. This work is my life’s purpose, and the way God shows His presence and favor in this ministry is truly amazing.
A couple of weeks ago, while speaking to a group of new arrivals, one person caught my attention. There was nothing unusual about him, but I felt drawn to him. A few days later, I saw him struggling to cross the yard with his green bag and cane. I rushed over to help, and we got him squared away before I continued to work.
Later that afternoon, I felt led to call Jennifer, a key member of our team. She answered immediately, which was unusual, and shared that she had just received a message from a woman concerned about her brother, who had recently been sentenced to the DOC and was at DRDC. When Jennifer told me his name, I recognized it immediately. As she described him, I realized I had just carried this man’s bag across the yard!
Jennifer and I knew this was a God moment. As she reached out to the woman, I went to the unit where the man was. At first, he was confused, but when I explained, he realized this was a divine appointment. I was able to minister to him, reassuring him that both he and his family would have the support they needed during this time.
As we prayed together, I realized that we were living out the very mission of our ministry.
